Reconstruction. For the single and double steps in this dance, I recommend pavan-style steps (closing feed together on the last count). The branle takes four counts. 1: While keeping the heels together and in place, turn your body to the left. 2: turn to the right. 3: turn to the left. 4: turn to the right. Arbeau’s description of the reprise is very vague, and different researchers reconstruct this step differently. I use: 1: lift onto both toes, step sideways to the right with the right foot, bring your left foot next to it, and lower yourself to the ground. 2: that again. 3: that again, but to the left instead of the right. 4: that again, to the right. The congé is like an intermission in the dance. Time varies, based on the music. Reverence to partner, and if time permits, return to the starting point of the dance to continue with the next section.
