Location of closest hospital

The closest hospital is the UW Medical Center, which is less than ½ mile south of the main event buildings on the UW campus. It is a feasible short walk.

UW Medical Center is ranked as one of the top 10 hospitals in the nation by U.S. News and World Report.

EMS response time to site

A quick review of historical records from the Seattle Fire Department shows average response time to the area of the event is 5 minutes or less.

The King County EMS and Medic One system is recognized nationally as a model system in providing emergency care.

Trauma level

UW Medical Center is not designated as a trauma center by King County.

The nearest trauma center is its sibling facility, Harborview Medical Center, which has the regional Level I trauma center covering the three Pacific Northwest states and Alaska. Harborview is about 5 miles south of the site, just south of downtown Seattle.

The site is within the city of Seattle, in the University District neighborhood.

Grocery stores

There are a few small grocery stores on University Ave., two blocks west of the site. The nearest supermarket is the Safeway at 4732 Brooklyn Ave., about ½ mile northwest of the site.

Hardware stores

The nearest hardware store is Hardwick’s at 4214 Roosevelt Way NE, which carries a wide and eclectic variety of stuff. There is also University TrueValue Hardware at 4731 University Way NE.

Laundry facilities

There are laundry facilities in the on-campus housing we’ll be arranging.

The nearest laundromat is the University Laundry Center, which provides validated parking and has free WiFi. They provide walk-in coin-op laundry as well as a drop-off service.

Hotels and accommodations

Our primary accommodation will be on-campus housing arranged through University of Washington Conference Services.

Alternatives

Also convenient to the site is the College Inn, a small hotel just two blocks west. The inn is non-smoking and has rooms with one or two beds above a popular neighborhood pub. There are shared bathrooms on each floor, and no parking is provided. Users on Expedia give it mixed reviews. Rates quoted on the web site range from $50 for a single room with one twin bed to $80 for a room with two double beds. Rates are single-occupancy; additional guests are $10 each. The hotel has only 27 rooms and does not appear to offer group rates. There is apparently a wedding party renting most of the rooms the weekend of the event.

More conventional hotels within walking distance include the University Inn, 5 blocks west of the site, with rooms running from $99-$135 per night, single occupancy; its sibling, the Watertown Hotel, 6 blocks northwest, with rates of $145-$195 per night, single occupancy; and the Hotel Deca (formerly the University Tower Hotel, completing a renovation), 8 blocks northwest, with rates currently quoted at $169 to $269 per night. There are several other hotels within a short drive of the site.
